Q My best friend has had OCD for around 30 years, she has come off Prozac and needs help to be able to cope, she has heard that Do Terra Essential Oils might help her, she lives in Taupo, she needs someone to help her through where she is now, she is getting hot sweats, dizziness, etc. but does not want to go back onto Prozac but believes that there is another way for her to go, I am concerned about her, and want to support her, many thanks. Liz

A Hello Liz,
when working with any anxiety issue getting the right support is vital and this also includes any herbal or prescription medication/support.
The symptoms you are describing could be related to the Prozac withdrawals as this process can be very difficult but there are other natural remedies which are very effective and don't have the same side effects.
OCD can be changed with holistic and expert therapy which helps the individual learn to identify the triggers, reduce the coping behaviours ( the OCD behaviours) and also learn ways to mange the anxiety long term. When Ive worked with people suffering from OCD its is important to ensure that the work is gentle and helps the individual develop a sound support plan which would include physical, mental, emotional and behavioral therapy. While I often utilize NLP in therapy,in long standing cases of OCD my experience shows a more gentle therapy plan would be best and creates a longer lasting change.

Feel free to contact me if you would like any more information.

A I am sorry I have taken so long to answer. I treat OCD taking a holistic approach - mind and body therapy. In this instance yes Doterra oils will be a wondeful adjunct (and I use these amazing oils all the time) as well as herbs and supplements and so forth. I also am a Master NLP practitioner and recommend NLP for OCD as well as many other mental issues from depression, anxiety, eating disorders and so forth. Please do feel free to give me a call to talk more and work out how best to support your friend xxx

A I totally support Jasmine's suggestion that EFT Tapping is an excellent tool for this situation.
There are some well qualified practitioners in Taupo/Rotorua area if face-to-face is preferred. Otherwise I support a Skype session with Jasmine.
The most important thing is that your friend TAKES ACTION!
Best of luck, Astarte

A Hi Liz - I understand your concern for your friend. Along with everything that others have said I would also suggest that Tapping therapy (also sometimes known as EFT or Emotional Freedom Technique) is a very simple, powerful and permanent way for your friend to heal the underlying causes of the anxiety that probably lies behind her OCD. It can be done by Skype or in person, or you can learn it fairly easily from online. A very good resource is www.TheTappingSolution.com
I would be happy to talk with her for an initial free consultation by phone or Skype if she wishes. I am based in Hamilton. All the best, Jasmine

A Hi Liz
Firstly it's important that yr friend check with her doctor that she had come off her medication appropriately. OCD is a form of self soothing and the oils may assist. However there will be issues worrying your friend and suggest she consult with a professionally qualified and registered counsellor in your region.
Thanks, Malcolm

A Hi Liz,
It is wonderful you have heard of doTERRA Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils. I work with and promote these oils as powerful tools to assist in bringing back the balance to the body. I would love to help you friend and recommend the oils she would need to work with to let her naturally return to her true self. DoTERRA oils have a complete synergy with the body and have the ability to penetrate on a cellular level. As they are Certified Pure an application on the feet has the ability to affect the Limbic System (Feeling Center) within minutes. Kindest Jocelyn

I do not know about Oils and medications but wanted to 'pop in' and mention that other things maybe able to help also, such as doing things that are fun, meditation, relaxation, hobbies, creativity, walks, tramps, good nutrition, etc. Good luck with the oils and I wish you both all the very best. Warmest regards, Liz

A Hi Liz
Good on you for being an advocate for your friend - I sense you care for her very much.

Essential oils can help with her stress levels, sleep and so on - she'd be best to consult an aromatherapist.

But my best advice is to recommend a face-to-face consultation with someone who is familiar with the orthomolecular & nutritional management of mental health issues. In my experience, there is usually at least one underlying metabolic imbalance that underpins the problem and the correct identification of these is by a thorough consultation and examination.
Amongst my success stories is a 64-year-old who had been on anti-psychotic medication from the age of 17 - and has now been off them for 5 years.
Maybe you can arrange to get your friend to an appointment if you can't find an appropriately experienced practitioner in your region.

Kind regards
Sharon

A HI There

I would recommend some NLP coaching, which may be done by phone or skype. At a guess from your short email there are few interesting things going on, but when working with NLP I generally expect a very finite number of sessions to address the various "programs" she is running for her OCD, and possibly depression or anxiety or some kind of phobia as well.
One thing I would make sure to address is not only dealing with the problem patterns, but also make sure to create some more useful patterns to replace the old ones.
If she is sweating etc then it sounds like she is in flight or fight, and that needs to be addressed one way or another before you try any more complex learning. THe Shinnick fast depression treatment would address that, the bach flowers suggested above might be helpful, and longer term she might need some adrenal or other naturopathic support.

If you want face to face NLP google the NZANLP website.

all the best

my website, or www.shinnickdepression.co.nz has more info about very fast and effective approaches to depression and anxiety

A I would be very happy to work with your friend over the phone or email(I am in Auckland) to work out a flower essence blend that will help her to stabilize and rebalance and the First Light range of NZ native essences will also support any other therapy she may choose in her local area.
