Q What is the best way to naturally detox your whole body system

A The liver is the main organ of detoxification. You need to consume enough amino acids and sulphur so it can do it's job - so plenty of nuts and/or animal products for the amino acids and eggs, brassicas (cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, kale, brussel sprouts), garlic and onions for the sulphur. You will also need enough of most vitamins and minerals for the liver to function optimally, particularly vitamin B6 and zinc (liver is a good source of both of these, also pumpkin seeds for zinc and sunflower seeds for vitamin B6) and magnesium (most nuts are good for this, as are pumpkin seeds).
Most toxins then travel from the liver to the bowel (the rest go to the kidneys) so as mentioned you want to be regular to reduce reabsorption of toxins from the bowel. Eat plenty of fibre (again brassicas are good). Kombucha tea may also reduce reabsorption of toxins.
Brassicas stimulate the liver to detoxify so eat plenty of these.
Getting your liver, bowel and kidneys working well is the most important and essential step but depending on what the toxins are and where they are stored you may need additional support - a good naturopath can probably help with this.

A Detoxification happens on many levels and really depends on how much you are wanting to cleanse from your system. Before any detoxification programe begins, no matter how gentle, you must first ensure that all your channels of elimination are effective. This is not only your bowel habits which should be at least 2x per day; but also your kidneys - urine should be pale in colour; skin - how well do you sweat? and breath - fresh? You may need naturopathic help to get even these simple elements sorted, but the good news is that if all of these are fine, then you will naturally be detoxifiying anyway! If you are dealing with a particular health issue then that can also be addressed within the naturopathic support. Detoxification is a huge subject and the progress may be slow, (particularly if you are wanting cleansing at a cellular level) which is what you actually want anyway to ensure no organs are overtaxed in the process.
