Q I'm pretty sure I'm suffering from a hormonal imbalance, but i dont seem to be getting any support from my doctor. I feel like i'm going crazy most days, I'm 34, here is a list of my symptoms - Acne on my chin and between my eyebrows, this has been happening for at least 2 years, worse now i have stopped taking my contraception pill. Hair thinning, anxiety, nervousness, crawling sensations on my skin - can happen anywhere at anytime on any part of my body, sore stiff muscles, espcially if i sit too long, insominia, getting to sleep is fine, staying asleep is the problem, i feel like my face is looking older than it should. my doctor has prescribed Spiractin and Metfromin for excess androgens, however, they only ran a blood test for hormone levels after i visited them 5 times complaining about the weird skin sensations and demanded they do a blood test. I havent got my results back yet, as my anxiety is so bad, i worry if my results are clear i'll panick that something really dreadful is wrong with me. I believe I have a hormonal imbalance which caused formication, which exasperated my anxiety. I believe this hormonal imbalance has accured because I am over weight, by at least 40 kilos, my diet is so unhealthy. plus i ran my contraception pill together for 2 years not allowing my body to have a period. My doctor advised me this was okay, however, i'm now wondering if i have made my body think it is going into menopause. I asked my doctor this but she disgregarded it. my symptoms change daily, some days i feel fine the next i feel like i'm going crazy - i dont know where to go for help, any advice would be much appreciated. :-)

A If you are from the Bay of Plenty we have two female practitioners in our clinic, Alicia or Kristy, who would love to guide you back to full health!
It is great that you are ruling out serious conditions with your medical GP but once these are ruled out you do need to see someone who deals more with natural or integrative health, to give you answers as to WHY these complaints have eventuated.
We see many females struggling with similar symptoms to yourself, often primarily because of hormonal imbalances. We don't just access your chemistry though, we also access your health from an emotional and neurological point of view, and correct your body as a whole.
We would love to hear from you if you are nearby, or guide you to someone near you if not.

A Yes, there are some imbalances in your body, not only hormons. We assess the balance from body constitutions, functions of body, lifestyles, climate changes, mind-body, and so on, then there is a holistic picture of how it looks like. Then we are likely to know what to do about it.
Chinese herbal medicine is one of the best options for you, please find more information from our website

A Hello. You don't say what part of the country you are from, but if you are in Auckland I would be happy to see you in my clinic in Red Beach. I am a Practitioner in Homeopathy, Life Coaching and Hypnotherapy. I believe you could really benefit from a combination of these as you certainly have a lot to sort out. You have taken the first step in making the changes needed and that is often the hardest step, but you will need to remain committed to your healing process, for which you will require a lot of support. If you are interested in making an appointment please ring me on 09 4279 279. Best regards, Mary Tonner

A First of all, well done with what you have achieved so far. You do have alot going on and to make the effort to seek alternative advice is not always easy. You would really benefit from seeing a Naturopath for diet and lifesyle support. You will be nutritionally deficient, not ony because of your food choices, but also your anxiety will be inhibiting your body's ability to absorb any good food you do eat. While a hormonal imbalance is very likely as you suspect, and the blood tests will confirm or deny this, my feeling is that you need support with the anxiety and stress issues as a first approach, then you will be better able to cope with the other things which need to be addressed. Any hormonal changes will take a few months to balance, so you will need patience. Best of luck with whatever you choose to do.

A Well done on finding your way to the Wellness Directory Ask an Expert page, where you'll find some really good supportive answers. You have identified several causal factors already, in lifestyle, diet, weight management, synthetic hormone treatment etc but I agree with comments below that the most significant factor in improving your health is to identify if you are ready to make changes - to your food & drink choices - physical activity levels- stress management activities - and more. If you feel you are then you need a health coach, someone you can check in with often to keep you on track to the goals they will help you set, and help you over the barriers when they come up. Once you have a framework in place so you know where you're going then you will need a good Nutritional program including supplements to help your body detoxify and cleanse as it burns fat & rebalances. We specialise in practitioner supported Detoxification Programs, one of the most effective strategies for rapidly improving the state of your health, and this structured approach is what I recommend will be of most help to you. A It will be interesting to see what your blood test results will show. I think it would be interesting to get checked: Thyroid Function, Fasting Blood Sugar, Cholesterol level. Also get your blood pressure checked. Ao other thing that can influence your life is the environment you live and work in. Any polution or risk of chemical poisoning? It is very difficult to assess what is wrong with just a few lines... I practice from Hamilton NZ if you live in my area come and visit me and have a chat about what is going on and what can be done. A Hi there first of all I would suggest you look for another Doctor, with my own experience of weird skin sensations, looking into a full vitamin mineral deficiency may be of help, which ties into your diet life style choices. For modality help Ortho-Bionomy may be of use to help with less Anxiety and more sleep allowing for a decrease in the other symptoms. Vicki Wallace Atlas Health Clinic Wellington.

A You have a lot going on which includes nervous system, adrenal and other hormone imbalances. It sounds like you have a serious metabolic imbalance due to poor food choices, lack of sleep and chronic stress. My suggestion to you is to find a practitioner who can help you make better food choices, tidy up your sleep pattern and work with you to balance your nervous and endocrine systems. If you are in or near Hamilton, I could help you, but you must be willing to make some changes to your lifestyle and make an effort to get well. There is no magic bullet that will fix this for you. All the best, Helen

A Hi there.
You've a lot going on, including a hormone-brain chemistry interaction.
It also sounds like you have identified some of the factors that contribute to your current situation and are ready to do something about it.
I work extensively in this area and would be happy to see you in clinic in Auckland.
