Flu, or influenza, is a respiratory disease caused by a viral infection that affects the lungs and upper airways. Symptoms of flu include headache, high temperature, nausea, aching muscles/joints and sometimes a dry cough. There are three types of flu virus which can be spread by an infected person coughing or sneezing small saliva droplets into the air or through direct contact with contaminated hands.
