In order to bypass an established behavioural pattern you need to be able to take the stress trigger out of that pattern. You already know how to do this instinctively. Think of how often you have, under stress, taken a moment, closed your eyes and placed your hand or your fingertips on the middle of your forehead and taken pause because 'you just need to think.' What you are intuitively doing in that moment is accessing two reflex points on the forehead in order to direct energy to your frontal lobes, or executive brain. This part of the brain is the site of conscious or new thinking.

We need to learn to do this for ourselves because it is very energetically expensive to be held in reactive patterns. When we are caught in  negative thinking or feeling the energy that should be available to look after the health of our tissues and the creative flow of our lives becomes locked up in that pattern. And that is truly a waste. It is, in effect, like draining your bank account to throw money at an investment that pays absolutely no dividends. One day, that account will run dry and then where will you be?

So, let's look at one of the ways we can free ourselves from this deficit. Try this for yourself.

Think of a scenario or a person that is causing you stress. On a scale of 1-10 ( 10 being the worst) how much stress does it cause you to think of this situation/person?

Now, close your eyes. Take a mental snapshot of this person or situation. Put a frame around the snapshot. Rest your fingers very lightly on the space in the middle of your forehead in line with both of your eyes.

Hold the snapshot in your mind’s eye. (your mind is going to want to wander off .When this happens, just bring your awareness back to your snapshot.) Keep holding the picture in your mind’s eye. Check in with your 1-10 scale occasionally. When the thought of your trigger no longer causes you stress your brain has finished processing and you are now free to think of your situation with clarity and can choose to handle things in a new way.

This process can take up to hour when you are changing a really well entrenched pattern but oh, it is so worth it.

Now that you have freed up the energy that had been trapped in an old pain or unhelpful way of thinking you can choose to reinvest that energy into something far more creative and life-enhancing. Happy investing,

Let me know how you got on.
