Bach Flower Remedies can be useful for the maturing generations of our society.
The most common remedies given in these instances are discussed below, in regards to their relevance for the elderly. Although these are the most common, The Bach System does contain 38 remedies to choose from.
The Bach Flower remedies are given at what emotions are presenting at that time and it is always different for each individual.
Dosage
Dosage is given at a minimum of 4 drops 4 x daily, but the remedies can be given every 15 minutes in acute cases, if needed.
If one is alcohol sensitive, then one can apply the combined remedies to the pulse points and behind the ears and on lips or diluted in a spritzer bottle and sprayed on the body.
Treat the Person
Although it is important to always treat each as an individual, there are some common negative emotional states of mind that frequently occur amongst the elderly.
I have treated individuals successfully with the Bach Flower essences. And once the negative emotions lift, after using the remedies, often the physical symptoms such as aches, pains and arthritis have also alleviated with the different, balanced mind set.
Forgetfulness
Some of the common emotional states that I have come across with the aged are the lack of being in the present. Creating forgetfulness, yet still being able to recall an event that happened thirty years ago as if it was yesterday!
This particular emotion is treated with the Bach Flower
Honeysuckle. Allowing the person to be in the present and thus retaining the memories of today.
If one is forgetful but also dreams of better times or even being with a loved one who has already passed away, Clematis is the remedy to help one back to the present and be grounded. Clematis is also used for people who feel faint and/or light headed.
Grief
Star of Bethlehem is used in the instance of the loss of a loved one, particularly if the loved one has been a husband or wife for many years the loss can be extremely great. Star of Bethlehem will soothe the grief and sadness. And neutralize sudden the shock.
Sweet Chestnut is when the person feels total anguish and despair, due to their loss, and nothing seems to be able to make them happy again. Here it will ease the anguish and despair.
Agrimony is for those who are always brave and happy on the outside but have an inner pain or turmoil, not easily shared. Not wanting to speak of their inner anguish. Maybe due to loss of a partner or loss of their youth.
Loneliness
Loneliness can also be a problem, Heather are for those that keep seeking company of others. Often sharing their personal life into detail and can be rather talkative. Heather can however, be used if one feels the need for company all the time. It will ease the need to be with others and enjoy ones own company.
Aging
Not wanting to get old seems to be a common concern these days.
Wrinkles are looked upon as being rather ugly and are removed, chemically (such as botox) or surgically removed or cream treated.
And grey hairs are often hidden with strong chemicals and dangerous colours and tints. Which create other major health problems and toxicities in itself.
Crab Apple is the remedy if one feels disgusted with them selves or does not like themselves for who they are. It is also good as a cleanser if toxins have entered the body. Crab Apple is also used for loss of control over ones natural motions, incontinence, where there are feelings of self-disgust, and embarrassment.
Honeysuckle can also help oneself to accept aging as a natural process. Avoiding the nostalgia and wish to be as in the past.
For those who have held onto past affairs with bitterness, resentment and not being able to forgive past hurts. Willow, is the remedy used. This is also the remedy for feeling sad and sorry for their own state, blaming others for their lives hardships.
With age sometimes one’s body slows down. The frustration associated with the lack of speed, can be relieved with Impatiens. Impatiens eases the feelings of tension and frustration.
Other frustration due to lack of health or strength as “you have always been strong” and been able ‘to carry on no matter what’, but now the case may not be so. Or maybe you are still doing jobs that your body may not be capable of anymore. Then Oak is the remedy as it helps you “hear’ your body” needs. So that it can recover its strengths and you are able to rest without frustration.
For some old age comes with full time care. The mind is still bright but the body won’t follow. Again Oak can be of benefit here.
Walnut is the remedy to help adapt to changes of being in constant care, more easily.
Dying
Death comes upon us all. That is one thing we know for sure.
A number of years ago I was asked to aid with the process of dying, with the remedies, by a client of mine who had seen great results with the flower essences in her life with herself and her little dog.
She decided she would like to take them when her time came to leave and help it to be easier and more peaceful for herself.
I was approached to visit her in intensive care and communicated with her as much as was possible at the time to find what was needed.
She shared with me her concern of leaving her adult daughter who had some personal problems. For this I gave her Red Chestnut for over concern for a loved one.
She slightly feared where she would be going. The unknown fazed her. So Aspen was given for fear of the unknown.
And Walnut was given to help her adapt to the changes she was approaching. She also felt very sensitive to the energies of the people around her. So Walnut gave her consistency in change at that time.
Two days after taking the remedies she passed away. And according to her family very peacefully in her resting time!
What an honour that was for me.
