Then find a Reiki practitioner to help you with .

Reiki (pronounced “Ray” “Kee”) is a traditional Japanese healing method based on the concept of the universal energy force that runs through all living beings. A Reiki treatment works by flowing life force energy into the client’s body and energy system to release blockages and to help bring the body back into a state of balance. It is non-invasive, calming and gentle to receive.

Reiki is given by the “laying on of hands” from your Reiki practitioner which allows Reiki life force energy to flow to you. One of the key differences in a Reiki treatment is that Reiki is not directed by the mind of the practitioner, nor is the practitioner’s energy used during the treatment. Instead your Reiki practitioner simply acts as a channel (imagine a straw) that connects you directly with universal life force energy. It is this connection that allows your body’s own self-healing mechanism to start working.

As mentioned above, a Reiki practitioner will usually use direct touch during a Reiki treatment. This is different from a number of other energy healing modalities (but common with other healing modalities such as massage). However, Reiki can also be given without touching the client, and even over long distances, while remaining equally effective.

Another interesting difference is that the ability to give Reiki is not something that can be learnt from books or online courses. Practitioners are attuned to Reiki during an initiation process and the connection is then strengthened through practice, self-treatment and study.

Receiving a Reiki treatment may provide beneficial effects including sense of relaxation, peace and wellbeing. Reiki may assist with all sorts of things from improving sleep patterns, to reducing stress and tension, for supporting the immune system during illness, or replenishing energy levels. Plus it’s a great way of just giving yourself a little time out from your busy daily life. It works well as a complementary therapy and can support all natural and orthodox modalities and medicines.

The best way to find out what receiving a Reiki treatment is like for you is to try it! A good place to start your search for a Reiki practitioner is right here on The Wellness Directory or on the Reiki NZ Inc website’s list of registered practitioners.
