General Counselling Information

How often and how long will the sessions be for?

The number and frequency of sessions varies depending on what the clients wish to achieve. This is explored in the first session and an indication given of the number of sessions likely to be required. I prefer to begin by seeing clients weekly. This enables us to get to know each other and for the clients to build trust in me. After 3 sessions we review the progress we have made and how many further sessions may be required.

Documentation of counselling.

I will keep written records of counselling sessions. These will be stored in a locked filing cabinet and clients will be welcome to review material related to them.
Confidentiality

Everything a client shares with me will remain confidential unless they give me permission to share it or I believe they, or someone else, is at serious risk of imminent harm. In this case, I would discuss with the client/s who else needs to be involved. In addition to these situations, as a practicing counsellor under the New Zealand Association of Counsellors (NZAC) Code of Ethics ( www.nzac.org.nz), I am required to attend supervision on a regular basis. Supervision provides an opportunity for me to discuss and receive feedback on my work. However at no time would clients be identifiable from the material I discuss in supervision sessions.

Feedback

I want the counselling or supervision we do together to be a positive and valuable experience for you so I will welcome your feedback as to what is working well and what you may like to be done differently

Questions

If you have a question regarding counselling / supervision or my approach, please don't hesitate to drop me an email . If you would rather discuss your query, feel free to email or text me your phone number and I will call you. I will get back to you as soon as I am able and I try to respond by the end of the day you contact me.

Why wait email or phone me now.

Counselling Costs

The fee for each 50 minute session is generally $100 plus GST. However, a sliding scale, based on income, is available for clients who find this amount difficult to pay. Fees are usually discussed and agreed prior to our first session. Fees are payable prior to, or on the day of the appointment, using cash, cheque or on line banking. I don't have eftpos / credit card facilities.

Some clients may be eligible for up to 10 counselling sessions funded by WINZ and as a member of NZAC I can provide this. To apply for this funding you will need to complete a form (Disability Certificate) which includes a statement from your doctor that they feel counselling is neccessary and will be of value to you.

Fees for students

I know that students studying courses in the helping professions, such as counselling or social work, may be required to participate in counselling and / or supervision during their education programme. The cost, which is on top of programme fees and other education expenses, can be very daunting. In recognition that students are the future workforce, I am happy to offer a reduced fee for students if they personally (not an employer) are meeting the costs of their counselling or supervision.

Cancellation or postponement

Appointment times are always in demand, so I appreciate as much notice as possible if you wish to cancel or postpone. Less than 24 hours notice will result in a charge equal to half the fee we have negotiated.
