Ever Felt Anxious?

Yep - that feeling of being on edge: ever felt like that?
Most of us have - so you're not all alone!  (In case you've been feeling that way lately).

Anxiety is a normal reaction to stress. It helps one deal with such situations as a tension in the office or at home, studying for an exam, an important upcoming speech, preparing for your first parachute jump (yep, I did that one!).Ever Felt Anxious? | Mary Tonner Consulting

In general, it helps one cope. But when anxiety becomes an excessive, irrational dread of everyday situations, it becomes a disabling disorder.

Anxiety is anticipation of a negative or bad outcome of something that hasn’t happened yet!

Stop and consider the simple reality in that short statement.  If you can accept it as being correct - then you can develop simple ways to challenge those often overwhelming feelings, and even learn to overcome them!

Anticipatory anxiety is usually a learned behaviour - habit - or pattern in life!  We all learn to think and feel the way we do because of our experiences of significant events that life has taught us, and even from the things our brains ‘recorded’ via other people long before we started having lots of our own experiences of life.

How we processed those certain events and experiences at the time - is generally how we remember them now!

Anxiety affects the way a person thinks, but the anxiety can lead to physical symptoms, as well.  Such as:

• Excessive, ongoing worry and tension;

• An unrealistic view of problems

Restlessness or a feeling of being "edgy"

Irritability

Muscle tension

Headaches

Sweating

Difficulty concentrating

Nausea

The need to go to the bathroom frequently

Tiredness

Trouble falling or staying asleep Trembling

Being easily startled.

It doesn't matter how long ago they were; and it doesn't matter how other people perceive our experiences.

It's about how we perceive them that counts!

And... like everything else in our memories, it is up to us to make choices as to whether we're going to allow them to control our quality of life any longer - or not!

The homeopathic remedy I often use for anticipatory anxiety is Gelsemium.   It is wonderful for the general feeling of inability to face any challenge, such as exams, stage fright, for public speaking or acting. Usually only one or two doses will do the trick to calm you down.   Gelsemium is a ‘weakness’ remedy and when facing a challenge, all sorts of dysfunctions can be experienced, some listed above, but it is also a very good remedy for what we term the “Gelsemium Flu”, a flu that brings with it a great amount of weakness. However don’t go diagnosing and prescribing for yourself.

If you have long-term chronic problems with anxiety such as panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder and phobias, suffer from depression, and/or abuse drugs or alcohol, make sure you organise a consultation with your certified homeopathic practitioner (i.e. ME)

Here’s a suggestion ..

try re-writing your brain’s tape:

The next time you start to feel anxious, get in touch with the reason for the anxiety.

Allow yourself the ability to 'see' the outcome or result that you are projecting or expecting.

Then in the quietest possible way (under the circumstances) do your best to visualise a positive or wonderful outcome.

During this new experience - get as relaxed as possible.

Breathe slow .... and deep.

Because anxiety is a learned behaviour, which has become a habit in most cases, the first time you try to do this may really challenge you - but for your own sake - be persistent with this!

Like any new skill;

• This will take time to develop.

• Trust the process

• Trust in your own ability to overcome the anxiety…

• Be persistent!

If you happen to fall short of your own expectations - remember that it is part of the reason that you are trying something new.... because of a possible expectation to fail in the first place.

Be very persistent!

You can do it!

Remember: If at first you don't succeed ..

Then take a lesson from what Robert The Bruce’s spider did (remember him?) ….try, try, try again!

And…have fun, look for, and anticipate, the lighter side of situations. That’s what life is about.

And don’t forget !!!  email me and ……

Till next time
