On one
level, people are just like computers. They’re made up of hardware and
software.
The process
of living actually determines the circuitry of someone’s brain; that is, it
determines the hardware they will have for the rest of their lives.
For most people,
the wiring process is completed by around the age of 7. After that point, any
change in how they’re ‘programmed’ needs to be done with software, that is,
with culture, in the form of schooling, parenting and socialisation. Hardware is who we are; software is who we
can be persuaded to become, with some effort.
Much of
parenting and socialisation is brought to bear on schooling. Through schooling, communities focus their
efforts on the cultivation of the human mind and define the expectations of its
community members.
“This is why
the first years of children’s lives are so important, not just to them but to
everyone around them who has a vested interest in their becoming the kind of
people they would like to live next to.
That is why there is something particularly horrifying about the
filtering we do to children, who are forced, legally and emotionally, to accept
what we tell them.
Too often we
squander the only real chance we have to create people in any kind of image we
would actually like. We squander their
trust and their openness by giving them a limited – and often twisted – view if
life, and then we all live with the consequences.
Later in
life, when children grow up and a few of them, we hope, decide to unlearn all
the horrendous garbage that’s been stuffed into their heads, the only option
open to them is to rewrite their own software. It’s a difficult process, but
anyone can reprogramme himself.
Those who
know how to learn on their own – the true life-long learners – are best
prepared to handle it. Others seek help
from such people as Hypnotherapists, Homeopaths, and Life Coaches. This helps them get very clear about their
ideals, values and goals; helps them to create a personal vision; to rewrite
their software in a very deliberate way.
As a
long-standing Practitioner of Hypnotherapy, Life Coaching and Homeopathy I felt
that the best way to tackle this was while the person was still at the first
‘writing’ stage, rather than the ‘re-writing’ stage of their lives. Ideally as young as possible. This is why I specialise in training parents
how to write the software of their children in the best possible way; through
the Goulding Sleeptalk Process ™.
Parents owe
it to their children to give them the best possible start in life, to enable them
to be confident, kind, caring individuals who know how to love and be loved and
to combat anxieties, fears, phobias, bullying (whether as the bullied or the
bully), bedwetting, being picky with food, allergies, eczema etc, etc., the
list is long.
