The name 'Tera Mai' was trademarked by her to protect the Tera Mai energy. Every single Tera Mai master who uses the name Tera Mai is obliged to use the same initiation as Kathleen teaches. This means that a student will receive the exact same initiations regardless of the Tera Mai master he/she goes to do a course with.
Kathleen always wondered why the Reiki Masters did not have the same healing powers as Dr. Usui had. As a medium, she got answers to her questions from the universe. In short: throughout the history of reiki a lot of information had gone missing in the teachings of masters to students. The initiations were different then, and a lot more symbols were available for healing and there were 3 other rays incorporated into the healing energy.

Tera Mai Reiki energy is stronger and more elaborate than the more traditional forms of Reiki. Whereas traditional Reiki is soft and friendly and will heal in a way that a person is able to take at that time, TM Reiki is much more intense, harsh even, and can turn you inside out and upside down.
I have found the extra symbols within the TM Reiki and Seichem to be very powerful, and with them have also been able to better 'tailor' a healing to the circumstances.
Tera Maitm Seichem
For those wanting to continue on the Tera Mai path, there is TM Seichem.
The TM reiki is one of the 4 Tera Mai rays, the other 3 being Sakara (fire), Sophi-El (water) and Angeliclight (air/spirit).
All together it is called Tera Mai Seichem, which is taught separately from TM Reiki. Each has 3 degrees. The following is an explanation taken from Kathleen Milner's website (www.kathleenmilner.com)
Earth (Reiki) energy is experienced as hot and cold (just like the surface of the planet). It works on the physical body and grounds all healing work.
Water (Sophi-El) is experienced as undulating waves of cool energy that brings up deep emotional issues for healing. Thus, the healed is able to feel the negative emotions and then release them to the Tera-Mai healer, who gives the negativity to the angels for transformation.
Fire (Sakara) is clearly distinguished as rapid pulses or sparks of low voltage electricity. Oftentimes, the healer will experience the sensation of pins & needles-like energy in the palms of his/her hands. Healees often feel the sparkling energy or a current or energy on or in their body. Sakara gives the healer the ability to heal the aura or energy field surrounding the living.
Air (Angeliclight) is the 2-fold energy of air and spirit. It enhances the healing ability of the third eye and the voice and breath. It helps bring about mental healing. The presence of angels is often experienced.
Though not mentioned on her website, I would like to add that Reiki does work on the mind and emotions as well, which is also taught in TM Reiki.

I am a firm believer in fate and we will therefore come across the Reiki master that suits us. For me that happened to be a TM Reiki and Seichem master, and I have never regretted going on the reiki path. It changed me and my life thoroughly, and it is simply a beautiful strong healing energy.
