We all want a sense of peace and calm in our lives but sometimes old memories or thoughts of things we should have said or done consume our thoughts. OurWhat is EFT | Caitlin Grace Wellbeing Coach mind just keeps going over and over the events, coming up with more things we should have said or ways that we could have handled things differently. Then our mind flips into self criticism about all our perceived lacks and failings. Uh oh, our mind is on a roller coaster ride and things are going downhill fast baby! We spiral into other failings, other situations where we didn't say the right thing. It starts to consume us night and day, whenever we have a quiet moment the replay button gets pushed in our brain and away we go again.

Often when this is the everyday scenario we do anything to distract ourselves, Overeating, drinking too much alcohol or spending money we don't have all become ways to cope with the internal voices that just will not shut up.

What if I were to tell you that there was a simple, effective and elegant solution? One that you can practise yourself whenever the need arises? The good news is there is!

EFT or emotional Freedom technique is a tapping technique that was developed over ten years ago by a psychologist Roger Callahan and then refined by Gary Craig into the simple technique used today. Because it is so effective it has spawned many other tapping techniques all of which work.

EFT uses the same energy points on the body that are used in acupuncture. In fact some people refer to EFT as psychological acupuncture and it is effective for emotional, physical and spiritual issues.

By gently tapping with two fingers on specific points while thinking about and talking about your issue, you can shift your energy around the situation and if you get specific enough, resolve it completely. When we get agitated about a problem we stimulate the amygdala which is the reptilian part of the brain that governs the fight or flight responses. the more agitated we become the more the amygdala gets activated and the more cortisol floods our body, creating a stress response which can show up as tension headaches, poor sleeping, elevated blood pressure to name but a few. By tapping we soothe the amygdala, calm the body and allow ourselves to relax.

The easiest point to tap on is called the "Karate chop" point as it is on the outside edge of the hand , at the base of the little finger. Generally a session would start something like this :  ( whilst tapping with two fingers) even though I have this issue ( whatever it may be) I deeply and completely love ,accept and forgive myself. Even though I have had......... for so long now I still deeply and completely love and accept myself."

While this simple phrase may not seem like much it is the gateway into a deep healing process and in the hands of a skilled practitioner can achieve amazing results. Even using this simple phrase on yourself can lead to profound changes . Try it and see what happens for you.
