Q I have a quite itchy scalp at times, with a lot of 'snow' on my shoulders. I assumed it was dandruff until I went to a new hairdresser and she said it was Psoriasis. I also sometimes get a dry patch at the back of my neckalong the hairline . Would these be connected and what can I do (apart from stopping wearing black !)

A As I understand it, psoriasis is a problem related to the autoimmune system, and is aggravated by stress. I would suggest a course of either Reiki or hypnotherapy both of which will reduce your stress levels and help you to relax. Psoriasis of the scalp can also be made worse by commercial hair products, including shampoo and conditioner. From personal experience, I would urge you to stop using these products, and instead to wash your hair in nothing but hot water every few days (note: not every day), brush or comb it into place, and let it dry naturally. It will take a week or so for the oil levels to adjust, but your hair will be soft, shiny and manageable. Get your hairdresser to give you a dry cut, merely damping the hair with a water-filled spray bottle.
