WHAT EXACTLY IS EMOTIONAL FREEDOM TECHNIQUE?

EFT is based on a revolutionary new discovery that evolved from, the US clinical psychologist Roger Callahan, Thought Field Therapy.

This technique argues that disruptions within the body’s energy system, is the cause of all negative emotions.  EFT techniques although unusual but scientific in nature, have had significant results.   A method of using the fingertips along a short series of points in a ‘tapping’ motion, which corresponds with acupuncture points on the energy meridians.

During this treatment if disparity is discovered, then there is typically a parallel blockage in the flow of energy through the meridian system.  The ‘tapping’ method relieves the blockages that are produced when an individual gets involved or thinks about an emotionally charged situation.  Once the blockage has been relieved and equilibrium has been restored, the awareness of the situation through being altered in a positive way remains as a memory, but the emotional charge has been dissipated.

Whilst this method can be learnt by anyone, for their own application, there are certain issues that would require the skill of an EFT therapist, as some problems need the perseverance of this technique over a period of time.  The method of EFT therapy should always be considered as a therapy, which is utilized in combination with medical consultation, not as an alternative to appropriate medical care.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT FROM EFT SESSIONS

Prior to the initial EFT session a diagram will be sent to you highlighting which points will be ‘tapped’ on during your session.  The environment for each session will be relaxed and quiet and pain-free.

At the start of each session there will usually be time dedicated for you to discuss with the therapist any concerns you may have or anything that you wish to achieve from the session.

The session will be customized to meet your needs, to enable you to attain the benefits you desire.  The therapist typically guides the client through the tapping method and taps along with you, monitoring you throughout the session and altering the technique based on your experience.  Experiences during a session can range from; a sense of warmth or tingling, you may gain new insights or concepts.  This is all normal during an EFT session.

At the end of the session there will be time for you to discuss your experiences during the treatment and to receive guidance and advice on methods you can you at home, incase an issue could further arise.
Almost everyone benefits from the experience of their first session and some people find that one session is all that they need although most will benefit from a series of sessions. This is due to emotions, physical pain and habits having many layers, which requires more than one session to fully unravel.

FINDING A QUALIFIED EFT PRACTITIONER

Emotional Freedom Technique is an extremely safe and non-invasive form of therapy when carried out by a qualified therapist.  It is wise to carry out some research and select a therapist who is either a member of, or accredited by, an association or professional body such as the Energy Psychology Association of New Zealand (EPANZ).  EFT practitioners are obligated to a code of ethics and procedure that determines the therapy is carried out in a suitable and safe environment.  These regulations also guarantee a specialist who has undergone certifiable training and receives professional upskilling.

The Wellness Directory provides a ready-made referral list of certified EFT Practitioners within your region.  We fully encourage you to do some independent research by checking out individual credentials, i.e. experience, training, qualifications, relevant client feedback and so forth.
