Hi,I have had a Vaginal Hysterectomy and posterior repair( Bladder and Bowel).I am post opp nearlly 3 weeks.I was released day after opp. That night at home I had really bad pains and diarrhoea. My Dr took stool sample and that came back clear. After 5 days the diarrhoer stopped and my stools became soft.Since then I still have really bad gas pain and bowel motion pains so severe I am just about in tears.I am still taking pain killers now and then, but not in time for when I have gas or need a bowel motion.
Hi, time has passed now from your April question things hopefully have progressed some for you. If your still have some symptoms, Ortho-Bionomy may be of use is respect of allowing your system to accept the changes, with the hysterectomy itself, also with the scarring and tissue damage with the surgery procedure.
Using Visceral, facial tissue, structural and energetic work techniques, all times being respectful of the bodies own healing resources, Hope this helps regards Vicki atlashealth.co.nz
Definitely check back with the surgeon, there could be problems such as infection and inflammation with the op site itself. You can phone the surgeon's secretary and leave a message - often works better than trying to speak directly with the surgeon. Also revisit your GP - ask for blood tests to check for infection and inflammation related to the surgery and ask you GP to liaise with the surgeon.
Also stay away from all sugars - anything sweeter than a fresh apple should be avoided as sugars increase inflammation and increase fermentation which results in gas and PAIN. Poor quality fats also increase inflammation- so stop those.
High quality fats decrease inflammation and aid healing, also help the absorption of fat-soluble Vitamins ADEK - all important in healing too.
Avoid all grains (flours, bread, cakes, crackers etc. )at the moment- these are hard for the body to digest and put a big strain on the bowel which is trying to heal.
Take Whole linseed – 1 dessert spoon soak overnight (4-5hours+) in ¼ cup water – gulp down or put on food DO NOT HEAT- TWICE A DAY.
This is soothing and nutritive it will gently improve your bowel motions. It is important to soak the linseeds/flaxseeds think of this more as a food rather than a medicine so you can increase or decrease the dose at any time. Although for the moment keep to the dose I have recommended.
Also use a warm hot water bottle when you have the gas pain- and try to pass as much as you can when the urge comes!
Visit a Naturopath ASAP to help further with supplements etc.
Magnesium is one of the many supplements that are likely to be needed. Take care if you are taking Vit C - as high doses can cause loose stools and gas. A probiotic would help - ONLY if you have stopped all antibiotics AND ONLY if it does not contain FOS (fructo-oligo-saccarides) FOS can cause gas and other digestive problems in some people. better not to risk it now.

Painful and frightening as they are, the symptoms you describe seem to be very common post vaginal hysterectomy, and they will pass. Check with your doctor, though, because occasionally post operative bowel issues can be symptomatic of a prolapsed or twisted bowel, caused during the removal of the uterus. You might find that you would benefit from two or three Reiki sessions as your body adjusts to its new situation. Reiki is a powerful but gentle therapy, and is wonderful for relaxing and calming both the body and the mind, and would help you to deal with the pain. Alternatively, Hypnotherapy would be effective in helping you to deal with the trauma that inevitably arises from invasive procedures. If you find yourself getting weepy and depressed, hypnotherapy would definitely be my treatment of choice. Hang in there. This, too, will pass.
I am sorry you are experiencing such a bad time after your operation.
Pain on bowel motion can be due to pain from the operation but its best to contact your surgeon to make sure that it is nothing more than pain.
With this type of operation, muscles and internal tissues can be irritated and inflamed with the trauma of surgery. Make sure you have regular pain relief, take stool softeners such as flaxseed and increase fibre so that you do not strain to have a bowel motion. Drink plenty of water and fresh fruit and vegetable juices to aid your recovery. Probiotics have shown in research trials to improve healing by up to 40% and will help with your digestive tract.
Vitamin C minimum 1000mg and a good multimineral will help with recovery. Arnica and rescue remedy work wonders to help with post surgical recovery pain and trauma. Rest is very important as pain can increase with fatigue.
All the best - Donna
Hi there,
to have such a drastic operation is quiet a trauma. For your body as well as for your whole being. How were you feeling pre op. were there any fears for you going into the operation or worries weeks before? And do you worry to have pain before a bowel motion?
I guess the body does need time to heal. I would suggest to talk to your specialist/surgeon first to make shure the wound is healing well(no infections etc.) if all is well maybe seek out a qualified EFT ( look up EFT on this site under Therapies ' A_Z') practitioner in you area ( I am avaiable on skype if you are interested)or maybe a hypnotherapist, to deal with post operative trauma and pain. It can be very effective and quiet fast acting.
I hope this helps and you recovery is quick.
Hi there. I hope the op itself was a success.
I have a very clear picture of your situation from your description. Your body has experienced a profound shock (the surgery) and your gut has reacted. You have an irritable bowel condition that would have been just under the radar before the op. The solution is straightforward, though you may not find it easy.
1. Get some good quality broad-spectrum probiotics into you. My best suggestion would be kefir. If you're based in NZ I can get some to you.
2. Stop feeding the fungus that's taken hold of your intestines. Fungus loves sugar and starch. Cut out all breads, pastries, grains and sugars for now. Eat quality above-ground vegetables and meat, limit fruit to green apples, green kiwifruit and grapefruit (unless you're on heart meds). Eat only unprocessed meat products, free-range (preferably organic) eggs and raw organic nuts (but not peanuts).
3. First thing every morning add a tablespoon of Freshly ground linseed to a glass of lemon juice and water - stir and drink before it thickens.
Thes instructions will get you started and you should notice an improvement within a few days.

Hi there. Oh dear, that's awful. The op itself is bad enough, and now this. On the one hand it sounds as if a nerve might have been disturbed during the surgery - this can take a while to settle. There are a couple of things that influence nerve repair, such as Vitamin D - have you had your level tested? (it should be around 80-100).
Do you have alot of gas? If more than previously I wonder if you might be best on a different pain killer, as this might be upsetting things.
Let me know if you need further help.
Kind regards
Sharon
