Q I eat very healthy and have given up smoking 8 months ago, but i now have excess weight which i cannot loose. I was already overweight, but now i have low iron, and am very tired

A Being deficient in iron will cause you to be tired, and carrying additional weight will contribute to that. The weight problem can be managed - Sharon has suggested one way, hypnotherapy is another. If you haven't already done so, you need to sort out the low iron problem as a priority. See your GP or a naturopath.

A Firstly - CONGRATULATIONS for stopping smoking. It is very common for the physical hand-to-mouth action of smoking to be substituted for excessive snacking, leading to weight gain, as seesms to have occureed in your case. It sounds as if you have already made some attempts to deal with the weight issue yourself, and that perhaps you need a guided approach.

In my clinic I run the UltraLite weight management system (developed by a naturopath), which has won Slimmers awards in Australia many times. I have been running the program for more than 8 years and it is a very fast and effective way to lose weight, plus the diet teaches you about food and your relationship to it - so becomes a tool to enable you to have long-term weight management strategies in place.

The fact that you have low iron points to either a dietary deficiency or a digestive inadequacy, which would require a bit of investigation, and is beyond the scope of this message board.

Do let me know if I can be of further assistance.

All the best,
Sharon
