Q I am unable to perform to my ability in a physician clinical exam, as the stress of the exam situation prevents me from thinking clearly. I get dry mouth, sweaty hands, racing heart, feeling that I can't get enough air, and all my thoughts bunch up and my release is to give up before I can prove myself. In the Auckland area are there therapists that can help me with this problem? Thank you for your advise.

A Homeopaths successfully work with anxieties of all kinds. I suggest you get in touch with a homeopath in Auckland from Intentional Grace (www.intentionalgrace.co.nz) or book a Skype appointment www.ezybook/concordia. The cost is $145 for the 1.5 hour initial consultation. I usually book a followup after one month and again in six months if it is needed. The cost of the homeopathic medicine is less than $20. You can text me on 0274436737 for more information. Your skills are much needed in Auckland and elsewhere. I am sure you have dreamed of your success for a long time. I can help you go for it! A Hello,
Your situation sounds both stressful and frustrating. We are Auckland-based Master Practitioners of NLP (neuro lingusitic programming) and we have worked successfully with a number of clients who were struggling with generalised anxiety and/or performance anxiety. As every client is unique, we can help you to identify your personal triggers and your unconscious strategy for becoming unresourceful in exam situations, and teach you new strategies for remaining calm and composed so that you can easily orgnanize your thoughts and access your skills. The great thing about NLP techniques is that they can be applied to all areas of your life. For example, among other things, we can teach you a simple breathing technique you can do anytime, anywhere to quickly move from fight or flight back into a state of calm control.
You are welcome to contact us for an obligation free phone consultation, or e-mail us with any questions you might have.
Kind regards,
Carleen & Michael

A Hi there, having worked with various clients with this challenge (including an orthopaedic surgeon and an emergency room doctor), I understand how frustrating this can be, not to mention how it impacts your ability to do your best. Our approach is using NLP (neuro linguistic programming) techniques to help you change those responses at the unconscious level where they are being triggered. Often the fight/flight system gets activated as a protection response but then gets set on 'high' so to speak (even thought logically you know you are not in mortal danger!), so we help to reset that response so you can be calm and relaxed at those times and perform at your best. Feel free to connect with us by phone or email via our website to chat further and find out more.
Warm regards, Karen Ross

A Hello
That an be quite distressing. A propensity to an adrenaline-type response to stressful situations can result from underlying genetic coding and can become much worse over time due to certain nutrients are in higher demand. I work with both nutrition and herbal medicine to aid in dampening the sympathetic response without dampening brain function (especially important in exams). There are some mind-body approaches that are useful to use alongside of such an intervention that can be helpful as well.
I'm based in Mt Albert. You can make an appointment here: www.ezybook.co.nz/pages/houseofhealth
