Hi there, my husband has been experiencing severe pain in his butt for around 8-9 months now and was told he has sciatica from a herniated disc by a chiropractor. He is in so much pain but we don't really know how to treat/fix it. Is there anyone in Wellington who can help us or recommend any treatments?

I'm surprised no one has suggested a good deep tissue massage of the pelvic muscles. Whether there is a herniated disc of not, it would seem that the muscles have 'splinted', ie. gone into spasm to immobilise the area. There are some good deep tissue massage therapists in the Wellington area, but if you're ever in Palmy, give me a call at Your Essential Wellbeing.

Hi there. If this was a grumbling/shooting pain that also went down the leg, then sciatica is a consideration. However, severe pain, and confined to the buttock region is not necessarily sciatica. Before your husband has any further treatments, he needs a proper diagnosis. This will require imaging studies. So the first port of call is your GP.
All the best.

Pain in the butt is not a normal symptom of a herniated disc. A usual sign would be weakness in lower leg muscles, pain and/or numbness in the posterior thigh and leg. I would suggest getting another opinion. Either way I would suggest that you contact Cheyne and Sissons in Porirua.

I would suggest Cheyne and sissons chiropractic in Porirua, wellington

Hi
I have treated people in the past with sciatic pain, with Dorn therapy, this a quite a gentle treatment. It is more to do with the sacro-illiac joint though rather than a herniated disc.

Hi there,I use a very gentle modality called Ortho-Bionomy, it works in way of positions of comfort to gently stimulate your bodies nervous system to release and realign, very helpful for accute pain and discomfort. I would be very interested in working with him.

Hi there, I don't live in Wellington any longer, but have very successfully treated back pain from ruptured discs including that of my husband who has had very little trouble with his back since and that was in 1998. Surgeons wanted to operate on his spine, but we felt we could heal it naturally and did so. I have written an article about this and it is in the "Articles" page on my website www.nurtureyou.co.nz
If you would like to contact me further do not hesitate to call or email me. Cheers Ruth
